Military personnel are constantly exposed to high levels of noise. In research under veterans, Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) and tinnitus is listed in the top two prevalent disabilities. NIHL is a significant impairment in the military and can affect combat performance and in social situations it also cause isolation from friends and family. Hearing protection is an easy solution to prevent hearing loss or when it already exists make sure it doesn't increase. ACS PRO Series Earplugs comprise two important elements - Custom fit moulded plugs and sound attenuating filters.
Each earplug is made from an impression of the user's ear to ensure a perfect fit, preventing sound leaking in through any gaps which can be found in generic fit earplugs. In addition, PRO Series earplugs are made from a soft, medical grade silicone to ensure a safe and comfortable fit, even when worn for long periods of time.
The attenuating filters fitted to our earplugs reduce sound to safe levels, whilst minimising the occlusion effect with our vented design so the wearer can still hear safely, comfortably and clearly.
PRO filters are available in a range of different levels of attenuation, to ensure the correct sound reduction is achieved in any environment.

PRO17 ear plugs and filters have been tested and certified to EN352-2: The European Standard for ear plug hearing protectors, which is almost identical to the AS/NZS1270 standards

The PRO26 custom hearing protector is designated for use in very high noise environments where an even level of protection is required. The PRO26 provides excellent attenuation across the whole frequency range and for a high SNR protector gives a fairly flat response, giving the user the most natural sounding protection possible whilst protecting from the high noise levels.
Hearing protection is required in any working environment where the average noise exposure is over 85dB, and our PRO Series earplugs provide the correct protection for almost any industry sector. For some people, loud noises have a big impact on their ability to think straight and focus on their given tasks. Excessive and prolonged loud noise increases psychological stress and can cause a person to become irritable and withdrawn. Loud environments can have devastating effects if one is not properly protected. Damage can be caused to your hearing when exposed to loud noises, which will lead to permanent hearing loss. If you work in an environment that is naturally loud such as a construction site, you will need a good quality product. Choosing the correct hearing protection is very important, it can soon become very overwhelming.
A revolution in custom hearing protection
Both the PRO27 and PRO31 are a breakthrough in high-noise filtering. The PRO27, giving you an almost flat reduction of around 23dB through the low and mid-range frequencies so that you maintain situational awareness and your ability to communicate, but can still be comfortable in very loud environments. In the higher frequencies the PRO27 gives you a stark jump in protection up to 35dB. The PRO27 has an attenuation for up to an 112dB environment. It increases your safe exposure time up to 9 times.
The next generation of filter design
The PRO filter series has been designed anew with the wearer in mind. For starters, it's smaller than many competing filters, meaning that it can fit into smaller ears without any protrusion which is great for both comfort and aesthetics because it will always fit snugly underneath a helmet or other headwear. The filters are also removable so you can clean and maintain your earmoulds and your filters – giving you the maximum life and the best value for money from your plugs. In addition, the PRO series are water resistant so they can be used outside or in high moisture environments and can withstand perspiration without it damaging the filter membrane.
The curse of the occlusion effect
Trying to create a natural sounding earplug is no mean feat as far as your own voice is concerned because, as you may have experienced, when you block off your ear canal your own voice starts to boom inside your head (this is what we call occlusion). This is caused by sound that is carried to your ear canal through the cartilage at the side of your head which usually escapes through the open ear canal so is not heard. When we block off the canal this sound cannot escape and so creates that booming effect. A large amount of occlusion can be eliminated by ensuring that the earplug sits deep enough into the ear canal to extend past the cartilage. This ensures that the sound hits the plug and is deadened rather than entering the canal at all. The PRO filters go one step further by being vented to allow sound to pass both ways, meaning that remaining sound can escape directly through the filter providing one of the most natural sounding earplugs available.
